For more than six decades, volleyball has been shaped by extraordinary women and men whose passion, sacrifice, and vision transformed a young Olympic sport into one enjoyed by millions around the world. Yet many of the personal stories behind those achievements have never been told.
Beginning in 2027, 5X Hall of Fame coach, player, educator, and youth sports innovator Ruth N. Nelson will launch a new monthly YouTube podcast dedicated to preserving those stories before they are lost forever.
Beyond the Net: Uncovering Volleyball's Past™
This 30-minute interview series will feature candid conversations with Olympic pioneers, Hall of Fame coaches, international athletes, administrators, officials, innovators, and the remarkable individuals whose dedication helped build the game of volleyball.
These are not interviews about statistics.
They are conversations about people.
The victories.
The challenges.
The friendships.
The sacrifices.
The lessons.
The moments that changed lives.
Each guest will have the opportunity to share the experiences that shaped their journey and helped build the rich history of volleyball for future generations.

Inspired by an Historic Celebration.
The inspiration for this series grew from the overwhelming success of the 2024 60th Anniversary Celebration of the 1964 & 1968 USA Women's Olympic Volleyball Teams.
What began as a 60-minute online reunion became an unforgettable 101-minute international celebration, reaching viewers in more than 75 countries. With live Spanish translation provided by Marco Garcia Hinojos, volleyball enthusiasts around the world were able to experience firsthand the stories, memories, and lasting impact of the women who pioneered Olympic volleyball in the United States.
That remarkable evening proved one thing:
The world wants to know the stories behind the game.
Honoring Every Generation
Beyond the Net will celebrate not only those who are still able to share their stories, but also honor the pioneers who are no longer with us. Family members, teammates, colleagues, and friends will be invited to help preserve the memories and legacy of those whose contributions deserve to be remembered.
